Before you start
Anyone can sign up for the FERC.ai beta. Use a desktop browser and follow the instructions for your assistant below. When prompted to sign in to FERC.ai, create an account or use your existing account. Your AI assistant’s subscription is separate from FERC.ai access.
Use these connection details
- Name
- FERC.ai
- Server URL
https://fercai-mcp.apps.permeta.ai/mcp- Authentication
- OAuth — sign in with your FERC.ai account
Paste the entire URL, including /mcp, into your assistant’s server field. You do not need an API key.
If signup asks you to choose a subscription, complete that step, then return to the connection flow. Use the same FERC.ai account throughout and review the permissions before authorizing.

Connect in Claude
Available on Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise. Free accounts can add one custom connector.
- Open connectors. In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors, then add a custom connector. Organization owners instead start in Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web.
- Enter the details above. Name it FERC.ai, paste the server URL, and continue to authentication.
- Sign in. Keep OAuth, choose Sign in now, and use Claude’s recommended published identity. Finish adding the connector and authorize your FERC.ai account.
- If your organization already added it: find FERC.ai under Customize → Connectors and select Connect.
- Enable it in a chat. Open the composer’s + → Connectors, enable FERC.ai, and send the test prompt.
Official instructions: Anthropic’s custom connector guide.
Plugin in ChatGPT
Set this up in ChatGPT on the web, using an account that has the custom MCP option.
- Open ChatGPT → Plugins. Select + (or Add), then Add custom MCP server.
- Configure FERC.ai. Enter the name and server URL above. Select OAuth. Use automatic registration or the published client identity option; leave optional client credentials blank.
- Create the plugin. Review the connection warning and choose Create as a plugin.
- Install and connect. Open FERC.ai in your plugins, install it if prompted, and select Connect. Complete FERC.ai sign-in and authorization.
- Use it. Start a chat, type @, select FERC.ai, and send the test prompt. Some views offer Try in chat.
Official instructions: OpenAI’s custom MCP setup and workspace plugin controls.
Seeing Apps and Developer mode instead of Plugins?
Business: only admins or owners can create and publish through this route. Enterprise/Edu members need admin-granted developer access; only admins or owners can publish.
The authorized person enables Developer mode under Settings → Apps → Advanced Settings, then opens Apps → Create. Enter FERC.ai’s details, select OAuth, complete Scan Tools and sign-in, then create the app. An admin publishes it from Workspace settings → Apps → Drafts for members to connect and use.
Official instructions: OpenAI’s Apps and Developer mode guide.
Connect through Copilot Studio
This route creates a work agent in Copilot Studio, then makes it available in Microsoft Copilot. A personal Copilot chat alone is not the setup surface for these steps.
- Open or create an agent in Copilot Studio. Go to Tools → Add a tool → New tool → Model Context Protocol.
- Add FERC.ai. Enter the server URL above, name it FERC.ai, and describe it as “Search public FERC filings and retrieve cited source documents.”
- Choose OAuth 2.0 → Dynamic discovery. Select Create, then Next. FERC.ai supports automatic client registration; you do not need to invent client credentials.
- Create a connection. Sign in to FERC.ai, authorize access, and select Add to agent.
- Test the agent. Send the test prompt in its test chat. Complete any FERC.ai connection prompt.
- Make it available in Copilot. Publish the agent, open its Teams/Microsoft Copilot channel settings, enable Make agent available in Microsoft Copilot, and add the channel. Use See agent in Teams → Add to install it. Follow your organization’s sharing and approval process.
- Open Microsoft Copilot. Type @, select your agent, and ask your FERC question. Each user should connect their own FERC.ai account when prompted.
Official instructions: Microsoft’s MCP connection wizard, authoring permissions, and Copilot publishing guide.
Add a custom app in Gemini
- Open Gemini on your computer using an eligible personal account.
- Open Settings → Connected Apps. If necessary, open Personal Intelligence first to find Connected Apps.
- Find Custom apps and choose Add a custom app or its server-link field. Older screens may say Custom apps for Spark.
- Paste the FERC.ai server URL above and select Next. FERC.ai supports automatic registration; leave advanced client credentials blank.
- Finish FERC.ai sign-in and authorization. Return to Gemini after completing the connection.
- Start a chat. Type @, select the connected FERC.ai app, and send the test prompt. After web setup, the connected app can also be used on mobile.
Official instructions and current eligibility: Google’s custom apps guide.
Ask your first question
Select FERC.ai in your assistant, or open your Copilot agent, and send:
Use FERC.ai to find filings about compressor station noise from 2023 through 2025. Summarize the main issues and include citations and FERC eLibrary links.
Check for a FERC.ai tool call and cited results. A general answer without a FERC.ai tool call does not confirm the connection. Open a source link to check the underlying filing.
For your own research, include a project or company, a full docket number if available, and a date range. No results means no match in the current index; a filing may still exist in FERC eLibrary.
Something missing or blocked?
- No option to add a server
- Check the account requirements above. In a work account, ask your owner or admin to check your role and connector policy.
- Sign-in or access fails
- Confirm the URL ends in
/mcp, choose OAuth, and use the same FERC.ai account you signed up with. Finish any pending signup or subscription step, then reconnect. - Connected, but no FERC.ai results
- Enable or select FERC.ai in the current conversation and retry the test prompt. In Copilot, open the agent that has the FERC.ai tool.
